PUMPKIN CHALLENGE CLOSED

The Junior Landcare Team - Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Did you know that the average Australian basket of groceries has travelled over 70 000km in 'food mile' from paddock to your plate?

The Junior Landcare Pumpkin Challenge is around the corner and this means that you can perfect your garden skills over summer.  This gives you the chance to get outdoors, learn about the environment, 'food miles' and healthy eating.

Once you register, you will receive a free packet of pumpkin seeds from Yates and you will compete to grow  the biggest pumpkin over several months.  You will be guided on how to grow organically and sustrainably, and also learn why it is important to buy local produce or grow your own.

Registrations are open to kids under 16, schools and other youth-orientated groups like Scouts or after school centres. Prizes will be awarded to the winning individual and school/group.

REGISTRATIONS OPEN ON 24TH AUGUST at www.juniorlandcarechallenge.com
