Junior Landcare and Firestarter are working together to host the first Junior Landcare NSW Youth Environment Conference from 31 August to 1 September. The event will be held on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and is open to all primary and secondary schools across Australia (grades 5-11)
The Conference itself is a culmination of a process, which involves students working with expert mentors in the months prior to the event, and results in children who are motivated, capable public speakers, with self esteem and respect for others
Students prepare 40 minute workshops to present to their peers at the conference on an environmental topic, relevant to their local area. Ultimately, this conference is about protecting and enhancing our marine and coastal environments, communities and industries through education and involvement of the next generation of leaders.
Firestarter’s award winning conference model provides professional development for teachers as well as mentoring for students. These conferences are held Australia wide and bring together kids from many different schools and situations, allowing them to share their environmental knowledge and information through dance, song, drama and poetry just to name a few.
