Summary
South Halls Head Primary School used the funding they received from their successful Coles Junior Landcare Garden Grant to establish four vegetable gardens for their pre-primary students.
The school used the funds they received from the grant to purchase four garden beds, soil, fertiliser and a range of children’s gardening equipment including wheelbarrows and gloves. With the establishment of the garden, the students learnt how to identify different parts of a plant and the essentials of promoting good plant growth.
The students have gained a greater awareness of growing and maintaining plants, and learnt that the three key aspects to a successful vegetable garden are watering, weeding and plenty of love. They gained much enjoyment from working together with their peers and family in the garden.
“Many thanks from all of our gorgeous young gardeners and parents. We will enjoy many years of fruitful labour in our kindy and pre-primary gardens. We are the gardeners of the future. Thank you so much for your assistance.” – Helen McKenzie, South Halls Head Primary School
