How does your backyard grow?

This exciting new challenge gives kids the opportunity to explore what is growing in their very own backyards!

We are asking kids to submit a photo or short video, and want to hear about everything from pot plants on apartment balconies to leafy suburban gardens or rural and remote properties, and everything in between.

Awesome prizes are up for grabs from Canon Australia, and a few exciting celebrity judges will pick the winning entries!

Kids aged 8 – 16 can enter, and you can enter as individuals, families, schools, or with a youth group such as Scouts or Girl Guides.

The challenge will launch on Monday, 10th September 2012.

Junior Landcare – Going the Distance Competition

Junior Landcare – Going the Distance is a competition open specifically to students of School of Distance Education Queensland in Years 4-7.

To enter students are to explore the theme ‘Junior Landcare – Going the Distance’ by creating a digital research project that addresses a local environmental issue. As distance education students you know what it’s like to take the extra step in your education, be it studying from a remote station or working independently in the city. Can you go the distance for the environment? Tell us what concerns you and how you can be a Junior Landcarer in educating others about our rich and diverse landscape.

So get creative by developing a PowerPoint, video or another type of presentation that tells the story of an environmental issue that concerns you!

One winner and two finalists from each year will be selected and will receive a fantastic prize pack.
